About

A project of the Carolina Asia Center (CAC), “Global Pandemic, Local Responses” aims to generate debate on Asia locally, regionally, and nationally and also to connect our international work with the Asian American community in North Carolina and across the United States. This website curates stories and commentary identified by CAC affiliates regarding issues related to the novel coronavirus pandemic in Asia.

The website covers a wide range of issues, but cannot claim to be exhaustive. You can follow a specific topic by looking for topical tags, or you can look for specific regions or countries by following geographic tags on our posts. If you have an idea for a topic we should add to our coverage, feel free to send a submission!

An extension of the CAC’s mission, this website is intended to fuel academic debates, comparisons, and discussion. It is neither an official portal for obtaining pandemic information on any given community nor does it necessarily reflect the views of the Carolina Asia Center or the University of North Carolina. (If you want to see UNC’s official updates regarding Covid-19 and the university’s response, go to this page.) Rather, the views on this website, and the views of articles, reports, and other webpages linked from this site, are meant to provide diverse perspectives on issues of contemporary importance.

Comments on the posts have been disabled in line with Center policy, but feel free to email your comments, questions, or suggestions to Dr. Kevin W. Fogg, Associate Director of the Carolina Asia Center.
